    With exponentially increasing stores closings, the retail environment is evolving at an accelerated rate due to changes made possible by the ever-evolving competitive landscape, evolving consumer behaviors, and innovations in technologies and business models. Consumers are becoming more sophisticated, with needs for personalization, uniqueness, as well as maximized values.  New retailers are morphing traditional businesses through changing the traditional retailing assumptions, and many retailers are implementing cutting edge new technologies to  enable consumers to make more informed decisions, receive more targeted and beneficial offers, and obtain faster services and improved experiences.  After an overview of what is going on in the fashion consumer market, this presentation will focus on the technological innovations in the fashion retailing industry.


六、报告人简介

    Yingjiao Xu is an associate professor and Associate Department Head and Director of graduate programs in the Department of Textile and Apparel, Technology and Management in the College of Textiles at North Carolina State University (NC State). Dr. Xu holds a B.S. degree in Textile Engineering from Donghua University (former China Textile University) and a M.S. degree in Textile, Apparel and Merchandising from Renmin University of China. On her way to get her Ph.D.  degree in Human Ecology (with a focus on Consumer Behavior) at Louisiana State University (LSU) in 2000, Dr. Xu also received a M.S. degree in Applied Statistics from LSU at the same time.  Prior to joining NC State in 2010, Dr. Xu worked at Ohio University for 10 years, where she taught in the area of Fashion Retail Merchandising and conducted research in the area of consumer behavior.  Dr. Xu also had some brief work experience in the Chinese fashion industry, including the organizing committee of the China International Clothing and Accessories Fair and China National Garment R & D Center.  With over 20 years of experience in research as well as teaching in the field of consumer behavior and market analysis, Dr. Xu has made her contribution to the field through research publication, conference presentation, review for journals, as well as mentoring graduate students entering the field of fashion marketing and consumer behavior research. Her research on consumer behavior has a strong focus on individuals’ social and psychological motivations.  Her current research activities focused on the followings: 1) innovative fashion retiling; 2) application of technology in the fashion industry; 3) fashion brand management, 4) market analysis, and 5) young consumers’ behaviors toward fashion products.
